“Two-Time Customer Review” - I recently tried a “different” local shop (please don’t ask me why; it was a mistake). They put my car on a computerized-diagnostic machine and then proceeded to tell me what was wrong. They gave me such a long list (& price tag!) that I figured I’d just be getting a new car!!! Instead of doing that I went back to see my friends at Gages Lake Auto & Light Truck (a.k.a., Lake Villa Auto Repair). They, too, put my car on their computer diagnosing machine, BUT also used their vast experience, advanced skills, and serious troubleshooting expertise. In the end, I not only kept my beloved Caddy, but paid 1/4 what the “other” shop was quoting me!!! Nowadays, far too many shops let their computers/laptops tell their mechanics what parts to replace. Many mechanics at other shops are essentially “parts changers” with few skills. They will advertise themselves as “ASE-certified professionals,” but cannot do a darn thing (on your car) without a computer telling them what to do! In my opinion, and as professionals, they should also know how to use experience and common sense to expertly troubleshoot your car! My friends at Gages Lake understand this very well, do their jobs with pride, and keep you (& me) the customer in mind. You can trust them with your own beloved cars. These guys really know what they’re doing, and will not do you wrong. They also have an excellent warranty on parts & labor (24 months or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first), which they WILL HONOR. And you just can’t beat that! Thank you guys for the excellent work you recently completed on my Cadillac.
Thank you for a great review. It is essential to have knowledge of today's vehicle systems. Our technicians spend an average of forty hours of classroom training a year to keep up with the latest diagnostic techniques and new vehicle technology.
